Lamp was three year old but was to last 5 years. It was on in light socket when it started to smoke. Turned off power and let it cool. Removed lamp which the glass tube turned black at the end and base was made of plastic which had started to melt where it meets the glass tube.
There have been a few problems with these bulbs, it is recamended you check the base of the bulb once in a while . if its turning black change it, the life expectency of these bulbs make people forget to check them once in a while. the $ saveings in hydro is worth the time it takes.
