I am trying to watch a video of a Lab being performed but the video is not working. There is a transcript but I am having trouble understanding it. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks for your helps its really appreciated!
Titration Transcript:
20.0 mL of sulfuric acid is poured into a 250 mL Erlenmeyer flask. Three drops of phenolphthalein indicator is placed into the acid. The flask is placed on a mechanical stirrer . The student reads the initial volume on the buret is 10.0 mL. The buret is opened and sodium hydroxide is allowed to drop into the flask containing the acid. Base is added until the colour in the flask turns a light pink for 40 seconds. The student reads the final volume on the buret = 26.2 mL.
Determine the concentration of 20.0 mL of the sulphuric acid when 1.00 mol/L sodium hydroxide is used as the titrant.
I need to know the answer to these:
-Initial volume of H2SO4
-Final volume of H2SO4
-Volume of H2SO4 added
H2SO4 + 2NaOH --> Na2SO4 + 2H2O
Mol of 1M NaOH used = (26.2 - 10.0) x 1.00 / 1000 = 0.0162 mol
Mol of acid will be half this due to the stoichiometry of the reaction
Mol of acid = 0.0081 mol
therefore mol of acid = 0.0081 = 20 x M /1000
M = 0.405 mol/L
