Sliding patio doors – an excellent addition to any house
Patio doors give a distinctive flavour to a house. They connect the exterior part of the house with its interior and give a stunning appearance to your home. There are a wide variety of styles and designs of patio doors that are available to your liking and preference. There are various types of patio doors available today – sliding patio doors, French patio doors, screen patio doors and coastal storm patio doors.
Sliding patio doors are most frequently used because they occupy only a little space. They are usually made of glass with a fibreglass, wood or plastic border. Sliding patio doors are attached to a track with rollers that open and close through gliding. These doors are less expensive compared to other doors and are also easy to install and repair. French hinged patio doors open with an outward swing motion and provide a larger opening than sliding patio doors. They are usually made of glass with a wooden frame. Screen patio doors use screens that are attached to aluminium or wood frames. These doors allow air and light into the house, but keep insects out. These doors are not durable and as secure as other patio doors. Coastal storm patio doors are specifically designed for coastal areas which are prone to severe weather conditions such as hurricanes and storms. These doors, although expensive, are very durable and provide maximum security.
There are several advantages of having a sliding patio door installed in your house. They come in attractive styles and designs and will help improve the look of your house. The doors also let sunlight in, which makes rooms brighter and warmer. During warmer times, you can leave the doors open to let fresh air into your home. Sliding patio doors do not take up as much room as other types of patio doors, and even small rooms can have them.
Sliding patio doors can be made out of a variety of materials such as wood and PVC. PVC patio doors provide a high level of insulation, which will ensure that your home is energy efficient. Sliding doors also feature built in seals which help to keep heat in and draughts out. Other additions such as double glazing and interior sliding panels help keep people warm in winter and cool during the summer.
Sliding patio doors are an excellent addition to any house.

Is Fashion What Makes Us Uniquely Human?
We humans are the strangest creatures on the planet. We like to think we are distinguishable by our intelligence or our moral character, but on closer inspection, many animals share these characteristics with us. We pride ourselves on our complex language, but studies have proven that humpback whales have a far more sophisticated communications system than we do. So what sets us apart?
One thing we like to do that animals don't do is explore. Whether we did this originally in order to survive or not is open to conjecture, but the fact remains: we did it. In order to adapt to new environments, we needed to make some changes. The desire to explore a mountainous region, for instance, led to the invention of brown boots and warm clothing.
While it may or may not be necessity that originally drove us to wander the earth and explore, the fact that we found a way to adapt and survive by wearing clothes is certainly interesting. After all, we're the only animals who have done so.
But survival doesn't explain fashion. Sure, when we moved to colder and colder climates, we needed to make some body covering in order to keep us warm at night. Anything would do that job. What made us decide that we needed to wear nautica sleepwear, though?
Fashion is pure indulgence. Those anthropologists who cling to the Darwinian 'survival' model just don't have a fashion sense! Other animals do things to attract a mate, but they don't spend hours choosing their outfits just to turn around and go to sleep! We like fashion because it satisfies needs that go beyond survival.
Then there is the matter of recreation. Yes, other animals play. Anybody who has a dog knows that. It appears that polar bears enjoy a form of skiing, just as we do. They lie on their bellies and slide down a slope and then go back up and do it again, just for fun, apparently. The need for recreation does not make us unique, but the invention of alpine skiing equipment does!
We're not trying to be facetious here. These ridiculous examples have a point. The one thing that stamps us humans as unique in all the animal kingdom is our creative impulse. Our common creative heritage is expressed in all of us by the clothing we wear. Our clothing is an expression of the best part of our humanity. Celebrate your uniquely creative humanity and wear something wild today!
What density and color of shade cloth should I choose for a patio cover?
I'm looking to get a shade cloth to go over my patio structure to reduce heat on the patio and in the house. The patio structure has slats of wood, but nothing on top of that, so a good amount of sun does get through, some of it hitting the glass sliding doors and helping warm the house.
I've found that shadecloth comes in densities from 10% to 90% sun blockage. I'm inclined to get 80% or 90%, but I wonder: Is that the right choice? Also, does the color matter, or is that only an aesthetic concern?
The house is in Long Beach, Calif. and the patio is on the east side of the house., so it gets a good deal of afternoon and evening sun.
Any advice or suggestions are appreciated!
If you are trying to reduce the heat, definitely go with a light colored cloth. It will reflect the sun, rather than absorb the sun. As far as the sunblockage is concerned, that will depend on how much sun you are trying to blockout. 80% will still let a little filter light through. I think 90% is nearly a blackout. If you are trying to keep all of the sun out, then go with the higher number.
Sunbrella Fabrics is a great manufacturer of 100% acrylic fabrics, they will not deteriorate with the sun, and resist mold and mildew. They also will hold their color better overtime. Most yard good shops carry this type of fabric.
