i plated a tissue segment of a mangrove leaf in a PDA and my question is how do i know that the colony of fungi growing is non-sporulating? whats the morphological difference of non sporulating and sporulating fungi?
The morphological difference between the two that you can easily see unaided is as follows -
Non sporulating OR vegetative fungal mycelium ( The fungal growth ) will be white or nearly white with cottony appearance .
The sporulating one , on the other hand , will show , green or black or some other color specks on it mostly near the tips or surface of the mycelium .
The color represents , in most of the cases , the color of the developing spores . The color may change as the spores mature and are ready for dispersal.
