Does condensation in a petri dish with Agar affect it?
I was wondering if condensation in a petri dish would affect the agar in any way, my project consisted of taking samples of bacteria and having i grow on the agar. Some water spilled onto the bacteria but my question is whether he bacteria or agar were affected. Could it be that the agar consisted of too much water?
The answer is no. The usual bacteria are not affected by condensation water. (they may be if they are grown under water). The water you encountered was due to condensation water that evaporates in a day or 2. There is nothing wrong with the growth media agar if it was a commercial made, or compounded from a recipe provided that you followed it strictly. The agar itself is not affected by water, which does not surprise me as the chief source of agar is the sea weed Gelidium, which grows in the ocean.
