Aluminum-plastic Composite Panel for Curtain Wall

Curtain wall aluminum composite panel refers to the composite panel applied as building curtain wall. It is the composed panel with plastic material as the central layer and aluminum on two sides of it, as well as decorative and protective coatings or films as the decorative sides.

Now, there are stricter quality requirements for new materials in construction and building decoration. The aluminum manufacturers, based on those requirements, bring forward more standard quality control methods and means. The national standard, GB/T17448-2008 Aluminum-plastic Composite Panel for Curtain Wall, details on the quality control indexes and testing methods of aluminum-plastic composite panel. Labthink Instruments Co., Ltd. (www.labthink.cn), as the excellent provider of testing instruments and testing services, introduces the relevant testing items and methods according to GB/T17448-2008 and other international standards.

1. Chromatism Testing

According to the standards, ocular estimation is the method for chromatism testing. It should be done under natural light and not in direct sunshine. However, there are no regulations on illumination, and the testing results are varied owing to different environments. Labthink introduces PARAM SBG-80 D65/A Standard Light Source and PARAM SPS-80T Double Light Source Color Matching Desk, specializing in precise color discrimination. Their light sources are similar to the spectrum power distribution of actual sunlight. Their technical indexes can guarantee all-weather color observation and comparison, so as to avoid varied color determinations caused by different light environment.

2. Thickness Test of Aluminum and Composite Adhesive Film and the Error

2.1 Aluminum Thickness Testing.

According to GB/T 17748-2008, take a piece from the aluminum as the specimen, and measure the aluminum thickness with the thickness tester of 0.001mm(1?m) resolution. Every specimen should measure 5 points at least, including four angles and the central part. The thickness result is the Min. average and arithmetic mean of all the measurement.

Labthink PARAM CHY-C2 Thickness Tester and PARAM CHY-CA Thickness Tester can satisfy division value requirements of the aluminum thickness precisely. Now, aluminum material is quite expensive, the precise measurement of its thickness can control the quality and reduce costs reasonably. Therefore, such high precision thickness tester is the best choice for aluminum thickness measurement.

2.2 Composite Adhesive Film (Macromolecule Film) Thickness Testing

The thickness testing of composite adhesive film complies with GB/T 6672-2001 Plastics Film and Sheeting--Determination of Thickness by Mechanical Scanning and its relevant regulations, Labthink PARAM CHY-C2 Thickness Tester and PARAM CHY-CA Thickness Tester can also suit the composite adhesive film (macromolecule/high polymer film) thickness and thickness error measurement.

3. Coating Gloss Deviation Testing

According to GB 9754, 20 degree gloss meter should be applied to test. When testing, the testing data of more positions is preferable. The difference between the maximum and the minimum values is regarded as the gloss deviation of the curtain wall aluminum-plastic composite panel. Labthink PARAM Glossmeter specializes in the rapid and accurate gloss testing of flat coating and painting surface. This instrument is portable in size, stable in quality and reliable in measurement. The resolution is 0.1 glossiness unit.

4. The Peeling Strength Testing

The peeling strength of curtain wall aluminum-plastic composite panel is of vital importance. The competence of composite strength between the aluminum panel and the plastic layer is the guarantee for future stable and reliable performance. The testing procedure is as follows:

Peel two ends of the aluminum material to be tested, of which, cut the central plastic part and aluminum part of one peeled end. Then, clamp the remaining aluminum on the upper panel and connect with the upper clamp. Clamp the other peeled end on the roller. Keep the length axis in vertical direction with the central axis of the roller, clear zero of the tester load, and connect the lower panel with the lower clamp of the tester. Then, set the testing speed of 25mm/min for tensile until a minimum of 150mm is peeled. Record the peeling strength and curve simultaneously. Though there are detailed regulations of specimen preparation in the standard, the specimen preparation process would affect status of the two ends of the specimen. Thus, in order to obtain accurate data and reduce the influence of the preconditioned (pre-peeling) process to the testing results, the tester should have a function of end deletion. Labthink PARAM XLW Auto Tensile Tester specializes in the material peeling strength testing, which is of high precision and is equipped with powerful software including the end deletion function, which can better suit the peeling strength testing demand of the aluminum-plastic composite panel.

Besides, PARAM Auto Tensile Tester can perform 180 degree peeling strength, roller peeling strength, tensile strength and elongation rate testing of protective film and laminated adhesive film (high polymer film) of aluminum-plastic composite panel.

5. Tearing Strength Test of High Polymer Film in Aluminum-plastic Composite Panel

According to GB/T17448-2008, Aluminum-plastic composite panel for curtain wall, the tearing strength test of high polymer films is also called vertical tearing strength. AS the testing method is GB/T11999, Plastics Film and Sheeting Determination of Tear Resistance?Elmendorf Method, therefore, it is better to be termed as Elmendorf Method Tearing Strength. Labthink PARAM Tearing Tester is the applicable tester for such tearing strength testing.

What Are Glossmeters?

A glossmeter is an instrument which measures the gloss or shine of a certain substance. It does this by shining a light on the material to be measured, and then calculating the spectral reflection, or the amount of light returning off the material. In doing so, a glossmeter uses an international recognized measurement called the gloss unit. Additionally, operators must adhere to proper angles of measurement to ensure correct readings. Finally, the usage of these tools is beneficial for many applications.

If a technician employs a glossmeter when working on a task, they will be measuring the spectral reflection that is refracted after a hitting an object. Furthermore, this measurement is displayed on the tool as gloss units (GU), thus giving an objective measurement for the visible gloss. Moreover, when calibrating these tools, companies use black glass to set a baseline rating of 100 gloss units, on which all other measurement are based.

While using a glossmeter, the technician must be sure to use the correct angle of measurement, as this can skew results if done improperly. These angles are also standardized across the industry, so they will be recognizable to all who use the tool. Supposing the technician is measuring a substance with a high gloss, they should set up the glossmeter on a twenty degree angle to the material. For substances with a medium gloss, the correct angle is sixty degrees. Finally, if measuring a low gloss substance, the technician should set the degree measurement at an eighty-five degree angle. As with any rule, there are exceptions, and a few particular substances have their own trade angle measurements which are outlined in glossmeter operator manuals.

Glossmeters can be used in a variety of applications, in order to provide an objective criterion to the consumer, regarding the gloss of a material. For example, if a prospective business owner would like their business fitted with a high gloss façade on their building, an operator may demonstrate to the owner the material which creates the most shine for the money. Furthermore, the glossmeter is especially helpful for those who provide cleaning services. Operators may take measurements before buffing floors and cleaning surfaces, and then another measurement after the work is complete to provide an objective measurement of the quality of their work.

In conclusion, a glossmeter is an instrument which measures the gloss of particular materials. It does so by measuring a refracted light, and returns this reading in gloss units. Also, while measuring, the angle of the reading is especially important. Finally, the application of a glossmeter can provide an objective criterion, from which to base decisions on materials or rate work quality.
