Eco Line

Interior Design with an Eco-Friendly Edge

The environment seems to be the hot topic of conversation lately. Even the world’s most powerful countries have bonded together to support the efforts to preserve our beloved Mother Earth. I wanted to find a solid eco-friendly home décor line that was not only safe for my family and the earth, but stylish and trendy to suit my home and personal style. Can I have both?

First I wanted to make sure I was properly educated, I didn’t want to use or suggest products that were misleading to the public and to myself. I feel like the term “eco-friendly, earth-friendly, environmentally safe” whichever you choose to call it, is thrown around so loosely. With that in mind I started my search.

What is an actual, true “eco- friendly” product? I began my search on-line, to my dismay, I was flooded with what seemed to be opinionated answers. So I went directly to the source. Surprisingly enough, according to the EPA and FTC, to be deemed eco-friendly, environmentally friendly or green, the product makeup need only be 20% natural or recycled materials.

The home is an important place where we sleep, eat, gather and where we spend time with our families and friends. The way we decorate it and what we put in our home is equally important. The décor says something about who we are, it is a way of expressing our personalities and making our homes a calming comforting place to gather. What we put in our home is important because we want it to be safe and clean. Air quality is an especially important component. There are things that we can do to improve air quality in our home: open windows, air purifiers, add plants and live greenery and safe environmentally friendly products.

We need to be mindful of the products we pick for our home and their components so I decided to start with area rugs because believe it or not, carpeting and rugs can be a large participant in the air quality in our homes. Walking around the house is an inevitable daily occurrence.  Walking around on carpet or rugs drudges up fibers and dirt and stirs them around in the air which we breathe. We need to make sure that we are making a safe, informed decision when purchasing things such as area rugs for our home…who would of thought?

In my researching efforts I found a few popular eco-friendly material alternatives: Jute, natural fiber, cotton and wool all of which are great eco- friendly materials that are safe to breathe in, biodegradable and will not clog up landfills. Jute is a soft shiny vegetable fiber and one of the oldest known fibers. Jute can be grown quickly, in 4-6 months, making it accessibly renewable and earth friendly, yet easy for rug makers to work with and produce silky, chic designs.  Next up, natural fiber, a strong, durable, yet very eco friendly material. Sisal, is an extremely rugged natural fiber produced from the agave plant. Sisal is so versatile it allows for rug producers a variety textures and color palates to choose from making boring area rugs a thing of the past. Cotton, is also a great choice. Cotton is such a dexterous material, it can be used for just about any textile purpose. Cotton is a great area rug material because not only is it biodegradable and eco friendly, it endures time, easily lies flat with less bunching than other materials and comes in endless design and color possibilities. Last we have 100% Wool. Not only is wool a great earth friendly material, but in dually serves as a brilliant stain resilient material. Wool does not absorb dirt like other materials, stains are easily removed without the assistance of chemicals leaving it very family and pet friendly.

After feeling a little more informed I began my search for a collection of environmentally friendly area rugs and rug pads. I wanted to find a line that would please everyone’s taste, budget and needs. I wanted trendy, sophisticated area rugs that were friendly to the environment with out sacrificing design and style. I was also looking for products that were 100% natural as opposed to just 20%. I cannot control the air outside, but I wanted to be sure to do my part in making the air quality in which my family , friends and myself are exposed to be as healthy as I can control.

Finally after hours of endless product searching, my mission was accomplished! In my on-line quest for stylish yet environmentally healthy rugs, I stumbled upon the site, Continental Window Fashions.  They recently debuted their brand new line of area rugs by MOMENI. 20 collections, 16 of the 20 are made with 100% Wool or Cotton. I could not believe the variety and styles the collections had to offer! Sleek-urban designs, traditional-Mediterranean style and beauty, cute and comfortable-kids and baby collections, hip-‘tween designs, fragrantly- aesthetic floral prints, EVERYTHING! And what goes better with an eco-friendly area rug than an environmentally friendly rug pad? The site also features a rug pad by Jade industries, EcoNet™. EcoNet™, a rubber rug pad made from natural rubber and Jute, is the world’s most environmentally friendly rug pad. Even better news, Jade Industries is partnered with Trees for the Future and for every EcoNet™ rug pad sold, Jade Industries plants a tree.

The eco- earth friendly movement is no longer a growing trend, it is a lingering issue that is here for good. There is no excuse for trading style and individuality for the health and benefit of our family and the interest of our earth. Yes, we can have it all.

Hybrid Trucks Offer Fuel Efficiency

Everybody knows that for some time now there has been a worldwide preoccupation for the  environment. Besides the attempts to preserve the natural habitat unspoiled, people showed more interest in the conservation of the natural resources. Hence important steps have been made in this direction and researchers, technicians and car producers have come together to create green vehicles or at least to adjust the existing ones to the present ecological needs and legal specifications. One notable outcome of their efforts in this direction is represented by the appearance of more and more hybrid cars and trucks. And this is when hybrid trucks come into play. What's the trick about hybrid trucks? Well, as you know, goods transportation would be paralyzed in the absence of trucks. These big vehicles – the hybrid trucks - are huge fuel eaters and the industry of transportation is equally vast.

People are becoming more aware every day of the importance of preserving our environment and not using our energy resources wastefully any more that even owners of businesses in the field of transportation have changed their views and turned to hybrid trucks to comply with the laws and state regulations. It seems that, hybrid trucks represent one of the most popular hybrid items in the vehicle industry. People are eager to get the latest achievements in the hybrid vehicle construction business. People are interested not only in hybrid trucks but also in hybrid electric, diesel and flex fuel pickups, hybrid commercial trucks, freight trucks, semis and many others. Although full hybrid trucks belong to the future, this is a not so distant reality as you might imagine. In fact, several models of full hybrid trucks have been launched in 2008, with more to come in 2009 and 2010.

There are many well-known car producers involved in this adjusting process, that have already come up with different types of  hybrid trucks even if they are not the full versions we are all interested in and willing to have available. Thus Chevy and GMC have bring some mild versions of hybrid pickups. Truck lovers and users will get satisfaction soon when promises made by Toyota, Dodge, Freightliner, International Truck Engine, Eaton and Kenworth will become true in the new hybrid vehicles to be used. A nice outcome in the making of hybrid trucks is the notable reduction in the noise level besides the energy saving advantages. Hybrid trucks are silent, cleaner and more reliable to use: all you need to do is get the idea of an investment and put it into practice!

How do you use the outdoor line dryer on the Sims 3 Ambitions?

My hamper is full, but it says I need a washing machine, but if my sim is eco-friendly, isn't there a way to just NOT use a machine.....

No, there's no way to wash clothes without a washing machine, but you can buy an outdoor line dryer instead of a dryer machine. This works fine, too (although your sims often get soaking wet when they hang up the wet clothes).

Just click on the washing machine when it's finished (because you can see the wash in it, right) and then the option to use the outdoor line dryer will appear.

Have fun!
