Understanding the Power of a Compound Microscope
Probably a common apparatus at most high school science laboratories, the compound microscope use the popular combination of dual lenses and light reflection. In a world becoming infinitesimally smaller in each generation, microscopes of all types, caliber, sizes and capabilities can be found virtually everywhere - from laboratories in high school campuses, colleges, universities, to research and development laboratories of pharmaceutical companies and a host of other manufacturers.
Getting to Know Microscopes
The compound microscope has more than one lens - usually two - to do its job. The most basic of all types - the simple microscope uses a single lens. Impliedly, it offers a better view and more capabilities. Here are basics of microscopy:
1. Light Source.
Illumination is a basic requirement in microscopy. Some microscopes have mirrors that reflect light from sources outside of the microscope. Others, like the fluorescence microscope have their own specific sources of illumination, in its case a mercury-vapor lamp or a xenon arc lamp. Those using specific light sources are generally more powerful as these lights are more intense than generic day or lamplights used by ordinary compound microscopes.
2. Objective Lens.
All microscopes have objective lens - the lens closest to the object under probe; not all microscopes have eyepieces. Although the common image the word conjures is that of an ocular device, there are highly advanced microscopes that do not have an eyepiece. Some microscopes have three eyepieces for normal viewing and for mounting a camera, like the trinocular microscope. Instead, there are mounted on cameras and or video displays for a state-of-the-art, 3D view of microscopic objects or organisms. If you follow popular American TV, you would have already seen this in shows like House, MD.
3. Magnification Controls.
Yes, the term sounds impressive but it's also very basic. Microscopes, regardless of power and/or grade, allow you to control magnification levels with adjustment knobs. Usually, the magnification power is a factor of the objective lens and the eyepiece. In all cases, the maximum magnification is 2000x.
Practical Applications
Compound microscopes are used in many fields and for various purposes. The type of compound microscope you need and the magnification levels you require is determined by what you want to see, the specimen you're using and what you want to do with the images. Incidentally, manufacturers have developed a range of microscopes with specific applications and users in mind. It's now common to find different grades of one type of microscope. Student-grade compound microscopes - probably an inexpensive tool - are found in virtually all high school laboratories across the globe. Professional-grade compound microscopes can be found in research laboratories where you usually find white coats. Fortunately, manufacturers of this equipment like Meji Techno, Nikon, and Olympus make customizing microscopes possible with a range of selections that come with various accessories. You can configure your own microscope to suit your specific application.
But wait! That's not all. Working closely with its user base, these companies are constantly working toward improving their existing line with creative and imaginative input from people who use their products the most. So, have you and your compound microscope met?

Training to Become a UFC Fighter
Many athletes that get into MMA do if for their health since this type of training is great for physical development while other athletes are drawn in by the thought of fighting in the ring or ocatgon. Currently it is hard to find a place to train in MMA since it is comprised of various arts and most schools are of a single discipline, but that is changing. In this article we will go over 4 key areas that will help your quest of becoming an MMA fighter or just in better shape. This article assumes you don't have the all in one MMA training camp accessibility you would if you moved to Vegas. These four elements can be used in any town across the US.
1. Punch and Kicks (Karate, Boxing, Muay Thai)
This work is to quicken you hand and feet work and can be done with a heavy back o if you can train with a partner who can hold either the kicking bags or focus mitts. One fantastic way to improve your quckness along with your hand eye coordination is to use the focus mitts. The heavy bag is more of a power building movement which give you a lot of knockout power.
2. Strength training (Power Cleans, Snatch, Jerk)
Most of you strength training needs to consist of compound exercises. This means staying away from movements that focus on only one muscle and work on movements that hit numerous muscles to train explosiveness. Unlike body builders that want to isolate the muscle for maximum growth you want to train your muscle to work together and have then fire exactly at the same time. Lifting heavy weights is exactly how you do this. Olympic lifts are one of the best way to train your core which is so crucial in MMA. To improve on explosiveness and quickness the jerk, clean, and power cleans are the best lifts you can do. If you have access to dumbells for your workout use those if not the next best thing is barbell as opposed to machines Although machines have their place when it comes to physical development and exercise it is much better for MMA Training to choose the barbell and even better the dubmell. If you have a choice of dumbell or barbell always choose dumbells as they will give you greater benefit in MMA training. This again will train your muscles both on your left and right side to explode together and also strengthens your core due to balancing the dumbbells.
3. Ground Training (Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu)
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be difficult to train on your own but you can get BJJ dummies that really help simulate a partner to practice your submissions. To practice this part of your game it is best to join a school or class. If its possible to only make it to class once a week and train at home the rest of the time can provide a great deal of benefits~If time or traveling is an issue you can even train at home while making it to an martial arts training at least one day a week to train in the correct techniques. One place to also look is at your local high school. Many wrestling programs would love having an additional assistant coach and in turn your can get in their and do some learning and give the kids a good workout also.
4. MMA Training
MMA is a game of being well rounded and not specific to one style of martial arts. This can make it tough to train since a lot of schools and trainers don't have multiple skills yet. Instructors with multiple fighting styles will become more of the norm with the explosion of MMA. There has already been a shift in some Taekwondo schools to throw in some ground and pound movements. So whether you have a school close by that trains in all the different disciplines or you have to go multiple places to get your martial arts training and get better it is well worth it.
A student dissolved a compound in water, then added drops of 1M HCl. No precipitate formed......(continued)?
A student dissolved a compound in water, then added drops of 1M HCl. No precipitate formed. The she bubbled H2S into this solution but again, no precipitate formed. However, when she made the solution basic with ammonia and bubbled more H2S, a precipitate formed. Which of the following are possible as the cation in the compound? why?
A--> Ag+
B--> Ca 2+
C--> Mn 2+
D--> Cd 2+
You were asked to memorize the short list of solubility rules in your textbook - that wasn't optional. Here's a representative set:
http://www.files.chem.vt.edu/RVGS/ACT/notes/solubility_rules.html
(3) Halides are soluble except those of Ag, Hg(I), and Pb. No precipitate after step 1 means no Ag+ in solution.
(6) Sulfides are insoluble except for Ca, Ba, Sr, Mg, Na, K, (see the pattern there?) and NH4+. No precipitate after step 2 means no Ca++ in solution.
(5) Except for [compounds of Group I and ammonium] ... hydroxides ... are insoluble. Adding NH3 (+ H2O --> NH4+ + OH-) is gonna favor hydroxide formation. So, maybe the precipitate after step 3 is Mn(OH)2 or Cd(OH)2 (at least, you can't rule it out). However, by (6) it might also be (NH4)2S, which raises the question, Why in the world did she bubble H2S through the solution? Grrr!
